(Maiya, mai to chand khilauna laihaun)
(Surdas)
Surdas has wonderfully engraved the playfulness of little Krishn in his writings. This specific verse describes a scene when Lord Krishn was a child.
Maiya, mai to chand khilauna laihaun.
Krishn once demands mother Yashoda to bring him a toy he sees in the sky, that is ‘the moon’ to play with.
Jahaun loti dharani par abaheen, teri god na aihaun.
He is very stubborn with his demand and warns his mother that if she doesn’t give him what he wants- then he’ll roll on the ground and will not go into her lap.
Suri kau pay paan na karihaun, benee sir na guhaahaun.
He will not even drink cow’s milk, will not make his hair.
Hvaihaun poot nand baba kau, terau sut na kahaihaun.
He will be called as his Nand Baba’s (father’s) son only and not her child.
Listening to his son, mother Yashoda consoles him saying, ‘come, listen to me what I’m saying. I’ll not even share this secret with your elder brother, Baldev.
Hansee samujhaavati, kahati jasomati, nai dulhiyan dihaun.
‘… I will bring you a new bride’, saying so mother Yashoda smiles.
Teri saun, meri suni maiya, abahin biyahan jaihaun.
Naughty Krishn agrees, ‘My dear mother, your promise, I shall go and marry at this very moment’.
Surdas hvai kutil baraati, geet sumangal gaihaun.
Surdas writes that he will come from the groom’s side and shall celebrate the auspicious day by singing songs.
